Computers And Technology: Shop For Insurance Responsibly

Today’s advancements in computers and technology make many tasks easier than they were years ago. Computers and technology aid us in our personal lives as well as professional lives. Most young people probably can’t imagine a world without computers and technology, and most older people probably can’t imagine going back to that world. Thanks to computers and technology, we work online, we play online – we do just about everything online!

A popular trend today is the act of purchasing insurance policies online. Health insurance, life insurance, automobile insurance – you name an insurance, and it can probably be purchased online thanks to computers and technology. This is a great convenience for some folks. Think about it: who wants to make a detour on their commute home from a long day of work to talk with an insurance agent about purchasing an insurance policy? Wouldn’t most people rather go home to spend time with their families and relax before the next day begins?

While computers and technology make it much easier to spend more time enjoying these kinds of leisurely activities, they also make it much easier for us to lose connection with real people. By purchasing insurance online, you’re saving time and effort, but you’re also losing the important, yet overlooked, benefit of speaking with an insurance agent one-on-one, face-to-face. At the very most, the only human interaction you’re going to have by purchasing insurance online is speaking with a representative over the phone.

This isn’t to say that you should avoid the perks of today’s computers and technology, such as purchasing insurance online; however, you should make sure you have the chance to get some one-on-one time with an insurance agent – even if that one-on-one time is only over the phone. Rather than the conversation consisting solely of a brief synopsis of the coverage and your credit card number, ask specific questions, and make sure to get thoroughly detailed answers.

Renegotiate Deadlines – How To Do It To Lighten Your Workloads!

A couple of my trainers have just come back from facilitating a
Team Leader soft skills management course and gave me
a great example to use for this week’s Quick Tip!

Here’s the question that was asked from the course:

“I feel really uncomfortable when my boss sets me a deadline
and then half way through the piece of work I know that I can never
meet the deadline set. I feel awkward and stupid going back to
ask for more time and I just end up coming out with a list of excuses

- how can I approach this better?”

This is a great question!

A lot of us think that our boss will frown upon us by going back
and asking for more time so instead we get all stressed out
about the work and put in even more hours than the 10 hour
day we were working in the first place!

Never make excuses with your boss. No-one likes to hear
excuses, especially your boss!

Instead, renegotiating a deadline is all about making
a subtle trade off.

The position you need to get to is when you are “purchasing”
more time from your boss in return for giving him/her something.

I know that sounds odd but hear me out.

You need to persuade your boss to “sell” you more time in
exchange for value received.

You have really got to make it clear to your boss what the
additional time will buy. Here’s an example:

“We really want to do a thorough and well prepared proposal
here, I’m going to need an extra 2 days Bill. I don’t think it
will do us any good to try and rush it and end up neglecting a, b
and c”

Do you see how more effective that is than just saying
“We need more time”?

Another important thing to note is that you should view the
shift in the deadline as a simple alteration rather than a
crisis – be careful with HOW you say it.

Also, offer your boss alternatives and solutions. Make sure
you always offer them choices.

Here’s a great example:

“I can get the first proposal done by next Tuesday, with full
costings and case studies by Thursday and the whole
project completed by the following Monday”

Here is another…

“If I put back doing xyz I can get a and b to you for Friday”

So what happens if your boss pushes back?

Your boss might come back with…

“I need this work completing by the deadline”

When responding to these types of statements always try to
spin the situation around and mention things like:

1. The boss wants the best possible job completed doesn’t
he/she?

2. You take great pride in doing an excellent job

3. You do not want to cut corners now because it will save
time down the line

4. You will not be comfortable with the results if you rush it

5. …and if you’re not comfortable then your boss will not
be comfortable

Here’s an example:

BOSS

“I really do need that proposal by Friday Sean”

SEAN

“I would love to have it completed by Friday as well
“BOSS”, you know I take great pride in finishing a job to
the standards that we set and on time. On this occasion
to get the job completed by Friday will mean that I will have
to cut corners though and I will feel really uncomfortable with
that and I am positive that you will feel the same if we go
down that route. If you can give me until Tuesday morning, I
will have the proposal complete plus I will be able to do a
detailed costings breakdown in addition to what we had planned”

Let’s bisect my reply above along with the hidden messages it
gives to my boss:

“I would love to have it completed too”

- means that I want it completed as much as you by Friday.

“I take great pride…”

- I set really high standards because I do not want to let you down

“I would feel uncomfortable…”

- My standards would not be met if I rush it for Friday.

“Cut corners…. you will feel the same too”

- Surely you do not want a sub standard job because you have
very high standards the same as me.

“If you give me until Tuesday morning…”

- I am offering a solution and date when I know that IT WILL be
up to our very high standards

“Provide detailed costings in addition…”

- I am offering an additional piece of work that will add value
to the proposal

Then go on to ask your boss whether they are comfortable with
it – but let them make the decision. If they are happy with a
sub standard job then they have made that decision and have
to live by that.

Always think about the quality of work if the job is rushed,
the pay off for the delay and what you will both look like
if the job is not up to the required standard.

What I Learned From Coach Vince Lombardi That Guides Me in My Business Coaching

As a youth, I started playing organized, supervised football through the Boy’s Club in Elizabethtown, PA. I went on to play football at the junior high, junior varsity, varsity, collegiate levels and beyond for about 18 years. During those years, I became totally impressed with a football coach named Vince Lombardi and his principles. And to this day, I try to use what I learned from Coach Lombardi in my business coaching practice and my personal life.Coach Lombardi believed that running a football team was no different than running any other kind of organization or business. He believed that you have to be smart to be number one in any business and more importantly you have to play with your heart and every fiber of your body. Vince Lombardi believed that people deep down in their hearts, appreciate discipline and competition and emphasized that the objective is to win fairly, squarely, by the rules. The most impactful book I ever read about Coach Lombardi is ?When Pride Still Mattered A Life of Vince Lombardi? by David Maraniss. After reading the book, I knew the time was NOW to really put the ?lessons learned? from Coach Lombardi into my business coaching practice, as well as recommit to them in my personal life.Reflecting on the Maraniss book, other reading and personal experiences, I selected 10 key character traits and 2 quotes from Coach Lombardi for each trait to represent the lesson learned from each character item.CONFIDENCE: ?Confidence is contagious and so is lack of confidence, and a customer will recognize both.??We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.?COMMITMENT: ?Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work.??Once a man has made a commitment to a way of life, he puts the greatest strength in the world behind him.?ENTHUSIASM: ?If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, then you will be fired with enthusiasm.??It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever – the one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it.?LEADERSHIP: ?Leaders aren’t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that’s the price you will have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.??Leadership rests not only upon ability, not only upon capacity; having the capacity to lead is not enough. The leader must be willing to use it. His leadership is then based on truth and character.?EXCELLENCE: ‘the quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.?”If you’ll not settle for anything less than your best, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish in your lives.”DEDICATION: – ?.. Winning in business or in personal life is all about inches: going small distances successfully, then gaining further still.?”After the cheers have died down and the stadium is empty, after the headlines have been written and after you are back in the quiet of your room and the championship ring has been placed on the dresser and all the pomp and fanfare has faded, the enduring things that are left are: the dedication to excellence, the dedication to victory, and the dedication to doing with our lives the very best we can to make the world a better place in which to live.”PERSEVERANCE: ?It’s not whether you get knocked down. It’s whether you get up.?’the spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.?WILL: ‘the difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.?’the spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.?DISCIPLINE: ?Mental toughness is many things and rather difficult to explain. Its qualities are sacrifice and self-denial. Also, most importantly, it is combined with a perfectly disciplined will that refuses to give in. It’s a state of mind-you could call it character in action.?”Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit.”TEAMWORK: ?Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.??People who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society.?If you would like to learn more about business and personal coaching and its benefits and how to apply the ?lessons I learned? from Coach Lombardi to guide, facilitate and coach you, please contact Glenn Ebersole through his website at www.businesscoach4u.com or email Glenn at jgecoach@aol.comGlenn Ebersole, Jr. is a multi-faceted professional, who is recognized as a visionary, guide and facilitator in the fields of business coaching, marketing, public relations, management, strategic planning and engineering. The Development and Growth of African Football

In the ten years between 1996 to 2006, African football has really made great advances. It was in 1996 at the Olympic games in Atlanta, Georgia, for instance that the Under 23 team of Nigeria defeated both Brazil and Argentina on their way to winning the gold medal in the male football category.

This feat was repeated at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with Cameroun winning the gold medal this time.
In this period also, the National football team of Senegal got to the quarterfinals of the 2002 world cup held in Korea-Japan. National teams of some African countries were also able to defeat or play draws with some of the world’s major soccer powers like Brazil, Argentina , Spain in major competitions and friendlies.

At the youth group tournaments, African teams regularly get to the semi-finals and finals of such competitions. Teams from Nigeria and Ghana have even won the trophies at these levels.

Indeed, African football has really grown in leaps and bounds from what it used to be two decades ago or earlier.
Players like Samuel Etoo Fils of Barcelona, Austin’Jay-Jay’ Okocha formerly of Bolton, Frederick Kanoute of Sevilla, Kanu Nwankwo of Arsenal and Portsmouth, Obafemi Martins of Inter Milan and Newcastle, and lots of others have become household names all over Europe and the rest of the world.

Indeed, the Nigerian football team has broken into the top ranks of football, being ranked as number nine in the world many times by FIFA, the highest by any African country till date. Some other countries like Cameroun, Cote D?Ivoire, and so on even enjoy higher rankings by FIFA than many other European and South American footballing nations.

One of the factors that has helped the continent’s soccer to grow to match up with the rest of the world has been the export of soccer talent to Europe.
Starting in the eighties, European clubs bought soccer players from Africa to play in their teams. The main reason for buying them then was the fact that the players were cheap and would cost less to pay their wages than their counterparts from Europe.

Players like Stephen Keshi, former captain of Nigeria and now chief coach of Togo were among the first set of Africans to play football in Europe.
They paved the way for the invasion of the continent by the African legion that followed after.

Fight Aging With Vitamins

Fight Aging With VitaminsSubmitted By: David Cowley

Researchers in search for the fountain of youth keep coming back to one fact: you are what you eat. What you eat has a tremendous impact not only on your health but also on your life span.

Aging that goes on inside your body has far more reaching consequences than a few wrinkles and gray hairs that seem to pop up over night. Sheldon Hendler, MD, Ph.D. says that much of the internal damage that accumulates over a lifetime, and the diseases that go with it, may be linked to mischievous molecules inside us called “free radicals”.

Free radicals are created during the normal process of metabolism, cells produce unstable oxygen molecules that damage cells. As we get older the human body produces more and more of these free radicals.

These free radicals are molecules that have unpaired electrons that seem to attach most readily to electrons in fat molecules. A free radicals attack on the cells could kill or severely damage them, leaving them vulnerable to diseases commonly associated with the aging process.

Recent studies suggest that free radicals plays a central role in virtually every age related disease such as arteriosclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’ disease.

The brain is a good place to study the benefits of antioxidants, says Paula Bickford, Ph.D. a researcher at the University of South Florida Center of Excellent for Aging and Brain Repair. The brain has one of the highest percentages of fats of any organ in the human body, and it is in our fats that free radicals inflict much of their damage.

Since over 40 percent of the total calories in the typical American diet is derived from fat it not difficult to see how we might be exposed to extensive damaging free radical activity.

Substances called antioxidants can neutralize free radical by pairing up or binding with the free radical elections thus inhibiting them from damaging cells in the human body.

Common Vitamins and over the counter products can help with aging such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin E, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Lycopene, L-Glutathione, Vitamin D, Green Tea, and Antioxidant.

Vitamin C, E and some forms of Vitamin A and the mineral Selenium are known to be antioxidants that help to protect the body from these free radicals.

Vitamin A is stored in the liver and fat cells of the human body and can reach toxic levels. DO NOT take more than the recommended dosage of Vitamin A.

Up to one-third of older people can no longer absorb Vitamin B from their food. Vitamin B is needed to form red blood cells and keep nerves healthy.

The mineral Selenium has been associated with a significant reduction in the incidences of lung, colorectal and prostate cancer. Good sources are fish, asparagus, brazil nuts, meat, poultry and bread.

Beta Carotene helps protect Vitamin C from oxidation, which enables it to perform at optimum efficiency. Symptoms of Beta Carotene deficiency include ache, dry dull hair, dry skin and thickened scaly skin on the palms and soles of the feet.

Lycopene is very powerful in quenching free radicals as is L-gultathione. Ultra Antioxidant allows cells to perform more efficiently with less oxygen, enabling sufficient oxygen to be utilized for the cells and organs that specifically need it.

Vitamin D is manufactured in the skin following direct exposure to sunlight. Many studies show that Vitamin D production decreases in older people and in those who are housebound. Vitamin D is needed by the body to absorb calcium, which makes your bones stronger and helps prevent factures.

Green Tea Contains antioxidants that may protect against heart disease, several types of cancer, and skin damage.

Natural antioxidants are abundant in fruits and vegetables such as, apples, blueberries, broccoli, cherries, cranberries, grapes, spinach, and Spirulina a blue-green algae.

A 2006 article in the Journal of American Medical Association suggested that by periodically restricting our caloric intake to as little as 890 calories a day, or fasting, resulted in a decrease in insulin levels and body temperatures, another two biomarkers of longevity. Restricting calories helps to eliminate the free radicals by burning off more calories than you take in thus reducing the amount of fat stored in the human body.

Skipping a meal here and there from an evolutionary point of view would be beneficial. The human body is used to going days without eating anything but today we have constant access to food and we are taking in calories all day long.

Traveling Luggage Case

Though travel is a major part of modern life, almost unavoidable in some vocations, this was not always the case. Most modern men and women consider the speedy travel from one place to another to be a most commonplace and normal event. We think nothing of getting on a plane and finding ourselves, six hours later, across an ocean in a foreign country completely different from where we left off. In fact, most modern men and women will travel frequently in their lives, whether it be on bus, train, plane or even car, making travel accessible to all those who would like to partake.

There are a few basic reasons for travel. One of the most common and oldest reasons to travel is to make money. Whether a traveler is hoping to sell spices and silk or to get a commission on a supermarket in Kentucky, this basic need to travel for business has stayed consistent and present for hundreds of years. Another reason to travel is to engage in the exchange of information. The most famous kind of traveling that matches this description is probably the traveling undertaken by missionaries. Missionaries travel to distance locales in order to share information about a spiritual institution. Early on, many travelers went on journeys in order to discover new lands. Some travelers still do that, although they are not discovering them for the first time as the early explorers had the pleasure to do.

Though the reasons for travel have not changed fundamentally, the ways in which travelers get from one place to another have changed quite a lot. Beginning with traveling under animal steam (preceded only by traveling by foot) we have advanced past ships and cars to include planes and the famous Concorde.

Just one thing has remained fundamentally the same throughout the entire history of travel: luggage. Luggage is the traveling companion that protects our treasures, preserves our identities and connects us to our homes. It allows the traveler to bring back pieces of their new experience to share with friends and family. Luggage alone is the single traveler’s companion. Inside are all the comforts and smells of home and ourselves, not matter where traveling may take us. In this way, the traditional role of luggage has been one of comfort and familiarity, allowing the travel to cross the globe while looking and feeling like relaxed, confident and free.

What to Look at Before Purchasing a Used Car

So, you’re looking at purchasing a used car. Sure you probably have a wish list with few models in mind, but which one to choose from? With oil prices soaring and the prices of everything on the rise with not nearly good enough pay increases, we all want to get the best for our money and be happy with the purchase made right? We all want reliability, low maintenance costs, safety, and above all great fuel economy. Is that too much to ask? The best way to accomplish all this is by being an informed buyer!

First we start with make and model. As stated above, you are looking for what fits you the best, personality, reliability, low maintenance costs, safety, and above all great fuel economy. You may have a few models in mind that are made by different manufacturers. There are websites that you can visit and compare more than one manufacturer all at the same time (www.edmunds.com , www.carsmart.com , autos.msn.com , carfax , www.iihs.org). My personal favorite site is www.consumerreports.org. This site is not free, but it is inexpensive to join ($26 per year or $4.95 per month) and it is handy for researching many other consumer products than cars! These sites (as well as others out there) can provide you with invaluable groundwork to make a final decision on one model. Keep in mind that with brand new models, these sites will often have incomplete data as they have not received crash test data etc from government agencies etc.

After I decide what make and model I want to purchase I go to the manufacturers web page and do some research on available packages, as well as if they are planning on releasing a newer model in the near future. This can benefit you come purchase time as when a new body style of the same model is released, it drops the resale price of the previous generation of the vehicle by a bit. Every bit counts and you can score big on clearance sales, lease returns, etc if your timing is right.

The last thing to research before purchasing a new car is what dealer to purchase from (if you are looking at dealerships). This might take some leg work, as most of this research cannot be done online. You need to get a list of local dealerships and visit each one. This will allow you to observe the atmosphere of the dealership, and see how friendly/service oriented they are. See what kind of warranties they offer, just beware of some extended warranties as they require you to bring your vehicle to the dealership only for service, which can be a hassle etc. On the flip side, buying from a private seller has its advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: Often a lower price, more room to haggle, and less dealership type intimidation, no warranty (unless one is already purchased by private seller and is transferable). Disadvantage: Higher price due to dealer overhead costs, little or no room to haggle, Pay extra for extended warranty. As always the biggest disadvantage/gamble of purchasing a used car is its history. Unless you are lucky enough to stumble upon a used car that is owned by an immaculate owner who has service logs, and receipts of all the service ever done on the vehicle, is always a gamble. This is where a pre-check by your trusted mechanic can pay off, or the purchase of an extended warranty to cover any unknown problems that my crop up (and there always are!).

In this day and age, it is important to research products before you buy them. For those of use without millions of dollars to throw away on impulse purchases, we need to know we are getting what we pay for. There is nothing worse than purchasing a car only to have it have serious reliability issues or horrible safety ratings. Just because it looks good or goes fast, does not mean it’s reliable and/or safe! Research first = informed decision and ultimately the goal is getting your moneys worth when buying used.

Sweetest Day – Kiss It Up

Sweetest Day is knocking at your door. Celebrate all the sweet things of life, honey, candies, hugs and kisses. If you are not with your beloved, then, just send virtual kisses through e cards on this coming Sweetest Day. In modern Western culture kissing is the most commonly used medium to express love and affection. And Sweetest Day is all about expressing the same to your loved ones. It is interesting to note that Sweetest Day is no more celebrated in the same way as it has started. Now, it has been labeled as the lovers’ day though it started with the distribution of candies to orphans, who are usually forgotten and neglected throughout the year. Kissing always has a romantic connotation. So, impress your lover with the fine art of kissing on this Sweetest Day.

Be sure about the kind of kiss you are going for because kisses are very relation specific. Flying kiss is actually meant to greet people or bid goodbye. Cheek kiss is a social gesture to comfort someone or congratulate your closed one. It depends on the local culture whether cheek kiss is socially acceptable between a man and and a woman. Hand shaking and hugs also accompany cheek kisses. Though the gesture seems to be quite familiar yet the meaning varies from one culture to another. It is generally associated with hugs and one must keep in mind the social context before kissing someone.

French kiss or tongue kiss is the passionate expression of sexual love. It stimulates tongue, mouth and lips which are very sensitive to touch. It is known as the most pleasurable experience in a romantic relation. French kiss also marks the beginning of an intimate relation. This can be taken as confirmation of your affair. But be sure that your beloved is not suffering from any dangerous disease before kissing her. The study shows that most of the sexually transmitted diseases are transmitted through kisses as tongue kiss is all about saliva contact between two persons. Do not get panic and get carried away by the frenzied passion and excitement that you experience in French kiss.

This year you can even go for the Eskimo kiss. Rub each other’s nose to get a cozy feeling. It is also another popular form of greeting people. You can impress your elders with holy kisses. They are also cheek kisses but according to the New Testament, holy kisses are something more than mere greetings. This is the most popular form of kiss among Christians. Try this out on this Sweetest Day.

If you are planning to kiss your special person for the first time on this coming Sweetest Day, then, take note of the following facts which are mentioned below:

Do not ask ?can i kiss you??

If you get the right ambiance then, just go for it. And even if you want to take a permission, then, do not plead but be bold.

The first kiss should be always slow and a gentle one.

Make your partner comfortable.

Study the response of your partner.

If your partner is impressed with your fine act of kissing, then, relax. Good kisses do wonders as far as romantic affairs go.

You can even kiss a person to avoid intimacy. If you do not like a person much, then, just give him or her a kiss on Sweetest Day if he or she suddenly comes in front of you. This is a good technique. Thus, without talking you can give out the message of love and affection to your recipient. And the recipient is also happy with your kiss. Try out the tricks this time.

Play with kisses to make your Sweetest Day more warm and affectionate. Go for the right kind of kiss for the right person.
