LCD TVs – Pre-Buy Considerations
Not so long ago, the cost of buying an LCD TV was prohibitive, and most people who wanted a home theater experience chose a plasma TV instead. However, the cost of them has been dropping lately and it is now possible to get yourself a cheap LCD TV that provides a great viewing experience. If you want to buy a cheap LCD TV, it pays to do a little research before committing to a purchase. As with all types of TVs, there are multiple brands, sizes and options to consider. To make your decision a bit easier, make use of the following tips…
- Know what size you want
Before you go out to buy an LCD TV, you need to have a general idea of what size it should be. The size you need is dependent on your budget (smaller TVs cost less) and the distance you sit from your TV and your budget. As a rough guide, if you sit 4 feet from your TV, then a screen size of 30 inches is recommended and if you sit 12 feet from your TV, then a screen size of 50 inches is recommended.
- Only get a high resolution one
You should look for an LCD TV that has a screen resolution of at least 1024×768. Whilst you can certainly watch a TV with a lower resolution, you will probably not be completely satisfied. A mistake that many people make is to pay extra for a big screen size whilst totally forgetting about the screen resolution. You are much better off getting a smaller TV with a high resolution then a big TV with a low resolution.
- Check the picture quality from one side
When viewed from an angle, the picture on a LCD TV will dim slightly. This is definitely something to consider, because when you bring a TV back to your house not everyone will be able to view it from a directly frontal position. Some dimming from a side angle is inevitable, but the level of dimming varies quite substantially. So, before making a final decision on which LCD TV to buy, be sure to check out the picture quality when looked at from an angle.
